Topp Dogg Rainy Day

Fans were certainly excited when Topp Dogg released their First Street album, and even more so when they got ahold of “Rainy Day”.  It’s hard to even tell this is the same group that we saw before, they’ve matured so much.  I don’t even know where to truly begin…

I guess we will start with the music itself!  This tone is far different than their previous songs.  It’s soft, melodic, and even the raps are pretty soothing.  The chorus is extremely catchy, but not in an ‘in your face’ sort of way.  With the loss of members since their start, the main vocal and rapping line up has had some shift made and this song was able to showcase the strengths of those remaining.  It seemed as though there were longer solo portions than in previous songs.

The costumes for this were really simple and definitely fueled the melancholy feel the music video and song have.  The small details on some of the shirts were a nice touch to give it a bit of pop.  I was a bit confused by the skirt type things, but it ended up working well, so I won’t question that!  I loved the costuming during the indoor portions as well.  It was nice that they changed it since the costumes from outside wouldn’t have worked nearly as well and the indoor costumes were far brighter.  Hansol’s pink hair stood out through any shot – that was some serious brightness.

The costuming in the dance version filmed at their workplace was even well done.  Each person has their own unique look with the same color scheme and it suits their personalities really well.

All of the different things they did really helped with the theme of this song.  I don’t think debut Topp Dogg could’ve pulled off a guy reminiscing about a lover as well as this new, mature version of Topp Dogg did!

Lyrics:

Love is always like
A monsoon that comes and goes
It stays for a while
And leaves to someplace else
Sweet rain falls for a moment and stops

The sun has gotten too long
I pray that rain falls on this dry city
The only way I can feel you
Is the rain that drenches me

Every day, every night, in my eyes
Rain still falls
I wish this rain
Was a light shower
But it feels like a long monsoon
Why is that?

It feels like you’ll come from somewhere
Will you fall like a rain shower?
That’s just my hopes, it’s too late

When rain falls on my lips
It feels like I can touch you
Feels like I can catch you
The rain resembles you
The sunlight has gotten wet
I hate the rain so much
I try to forget you
But you keep falling, stop it
It’s like this every day after you left
All day, rainy day
It’s because it’s raining

Coming from a long way
It was so hard
For us to meet
But breaking up was so easy
Each of us had different ways of hurting
It was just the difference of weight
We’re strangers now
It’s over now

Every day every night, it’s useless
The weather said it’d be different today
But it was wrong
Look at my head, drenched with your thoughts
Are you with someone else, somewhere?

It feels like you’ll come from somewhere
Will you fall like a rain shower?
That’s just my hopes, it’s too late

When rain falls on my lips
It feels like I can touch you
Feels like I can catch you
The rain resembles you
The sunlight has gotten wet
I hate the rain so much
I try to forget you
But you keep falling, stop it
It’s like this every day after you left
All day, rainy day
It’s because it’s raining

After the rain stops
Maybe you’re sorry, maybe
It feels like you’re going to come back
Always at that place
On this street we met for the first time
Just come back to me

When rain falls on my lips
It feels like I can touch you
Feels like I can catch you
The rain resembles you
The sunlight has gotten wet
I hate the rain so much
I try to forget you
But you keep falling, stop it
It’s like this every day after you left
All day, rainy day
It’s because it’s raining

This dance doesn’t have the same energy that their other songs had, but it was still really wonderful to watch.  The dance itself is smooth, which goes with the theme of the entire song.  It flowed well, like a rainy day actually would, with portions where there was rapid movement and portions where they moved really slowly.  One other thing with the dance is the fact that it really shows how much this group has matured.  Their movements are really fluid and the gestures are more mature.  It’s great to see how far this group has come.

I really loved how they looked up to the sky, in the dance and in the video, because it was a nice way to tie in the theme of the song and the name.

Overall, I think this song was a wonderful change of pace for the group.  They reinvented themselves and came out with something that could showcase their new way of doing things.
